The Sentient Meat residency is different by design. It’s not a short-term retreat or a corporate-run building—it’s a long-term, program-based residency where artists can put down roots and build something meaningful with others.
As a resident, you’ll participate in our nonprofit artist support program through a revocable Program Participation License—this means you’re not a tenant, and the program operates under community agreements, not a landlord–tenant relationship.
You’ll have a private studio room in a shared house with other artists, access to communal spaces (kitchen, laundry, workshop, gathering rooms), and the freedom to shape your creative time here. We welcome a wide range of disciplines—visual artists, musicians, writers, craftspeople, performers, and the wonderfully uncategorizable.
Residencies can last anywhere from one month to five years, depending on program fit and availability. Most participants contribute $600/month to support utilities and upkeep. If that’s a stretch, we offer options like our Shared Effort Initiative, where you can offset some of that cost through on-site labor and collaborative support.
We don’t just want artists to pass through—we want you to feel supported and included. That’s why we offer things like:
The application process is community-centered and thoughtful—portfolio and application submission, interview, and mutual fit check. We don’t gatekeep based on degrees or gallery credits, we care about your practice, your values, and how you show up in community.
We currently have room for up to four resident artists in our primary residency, with a second property potentially opening up for residencies soon.
Our next anticipated opening is in June 2026.
All residency program activity is operated under the safer spaces policy. Participants are responsible for their own personal property insurance.
