Terms & Policies

1. Program Terms

1.1 Residency & Workshop Participation

  • License-Based Access
All residency and workshop participation is provided via revocable program participation licenses, not leases. No landlord–tenant relationship is created.
  • Resident Advisors & Homeowners
Homeowners retain full ownership and legal responsibility for their property, while hosting under a cooperative agreement.
  • Student Members
Enrollment grants access to instructor‑led educational workshops under 17 U.S.C. § 110(1). You can review the full Student Member Terms.

1.2 Financial Participation

  • Residency Contributions cover utilities, maintenance, and shared resources (not rent). Large renovations may be reimbursed over time based on program funds and contributions.
  • Sliding-Scale Tuition for workshops supports accessibility; no one is turned away for lack of funds.
  • Fiscal Sponsorship (Model C) is offered for community arts initiatives aligned with our mission. Through this structure, we provide administrative support and nonprofit oversight while allowing independent organizers to lead their own projects.
    • What is Model C Fiscal Sponsorship?
Under Model C fiscal sponsorship, an independent project operates as its own entity but receives charitable grants to support activities that further our shared mission. Projects are not programs of Sentient Meat and maintain their own leadership and decision-making authority. Sentient Meat’s role is to:
      • receive tax-deductible donations on behalf of the sponsored project
      • ensure funds are used for charitable purposes
      • provide limited administrative support
      • distribute funds through a grant agreement
    • Financial Oversight
All donations made for sponsored projects are legally held by Sentient Meat. Funds are distributed to the project through restricted grants based on a written fiscal sponsorship agreement and approved project budget.Sentient Meat retains final authority over charitable funds to ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations.
    • Project Responsibilities
Sponsored projects agree to use funds solely for charitable purposes, provide basic financial reporting, comply with applicable laws and safety requirements, and credit Sentient Meat as fiscal sponsor where appropriate.Projects remain responsible for their own operations, contracts, insurance, and event management.
    • Eligibility
We consider fiscal sponsorship for projects that advance arts education or community culture, support emerging artists, align with our safer spaces and community values, and have clear leadership and a defined project scope. If you are interested in fiscal sponsorship, contact us with your project description, timeline, budget, and organizing team information. Our board reviews requests periodically.
