Artist Residency

About the Program

Sentient Meat’s Artist Residency is a program-based, cooperative residency—not a traditional lease. Residents participate under a revocable program participation license, which does not grant lease rights or create a landlord–tenant relationship.

This residency supports Sentient Meat’s 501(c)(3) mission through collaborative artistic practice, mutual aid, and peer-led learning. We welcome artists to live and create in homes managed by artist-members, contributing to a vibrant, cooperative community.

Participants make monthly program contributions—not rent—which support operations, utilities, and shared resources. Each location has a Resident Advisor to facilitate coordination and uphold community standards.

Program Features:

  • Up to five-year residency terms—longer than most artist residencies
  • Private studio rooms and shared access to kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, workshops, and gathering areas
  • A Shared Effort Initiative to earn contribution credits through communal labor
  • Transparent operations via a shared spreadsheet tracking contributions and expenses
  • Clear financial, maintenance, and reimbursement policies governed by the board

All residency program activity is operated under the safer spaces policy. Residents are responsible for their own personal property insurance. Residency is granted under a revocable license for program participation, not a lease. Sentient Meat does not provide tenant housing and retains the right to withdraw participation per board-approved terms.
