Xmas Burn is a low-cost, participant-led arts gathering held annually in southern Ohio—typically over Mother’s Day weekend. The event centers radical self-expression, consent, communal effort, and sustainable celebration in a temporary village co-created by its attendees.
The name comes from one of its core materials: dried Christmas trees, saved by the community throughout the winter and reused as the primary building material for the event’s effigy. This creative reuse reflects the event’s broader commitment to impact reduction, collaboration, and land-based reciprocity.
While the event is run by its own autonomous planning subcommittee, Sentient Meat provides legal infrastructure and organizing support. In lieu of a traditional site rental, the event’s use of Home Afarm Co-op is made possible through collective stewardship: volunteers return outside of event dates to assist with invasive plant removal and land maintenance as part of an ongoing labor exchange.
