Student Member Terms & Participation Agreement

By enrolling as a Student Member of Sentient Meat, you agree to the following:

1. Purpose of Enrollment

Your enrollment grants access to one or more educational workshops offered by Sentient Meat, including but not limited to the monthly film workshop series. These sessions are structured learning environments intended to foster art and media literacy, critical discussion, and community-based education.

2. Nonprofit Educational Use

All sessions are conducted by and for a nonprofit educational organization, in compliance with U.S. copyright exemption law (17 U.S. Code § 110(1)). Participation is limited to enrolled Student Members as part of a structured face-to-face teaching activity.

3. Safer Spaces Policy

All Student Members are required to read and abide by our Safer Spaces Policy before attending. This policy supports mutual respect, consent, accessibility, and accountability within our learning environment.

4. Session Participation

You agree to:

  • Attend the session in full, including discussion.
  • Engage respectfully and thoughtfully with instructors and peers.
  • Contribute to a shared atmosphere of inquiry, imagination, and care.

5. Privacy & Records

We collect only the minimum information needed to maintain educational records (e.g., sign-in confirmation). These rosters are retained securely by the organization for legal compliance and are never shared, published, or used for marketing.

6. Sliding Scale Tuition

Sessions are offered on a donation-based sliding scale. Donations support program costs and help keep community education accessible to all. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

7. Term of Membership

Student Membership is temporary and session-based. Your enrollment covers participation in a specific educational session. You may re-enroll for future sessions.

8. Assumption of Risk & Liability Waiver

Sentient Meat workshops may take place on private property and in community venues such as barns, farms, and other rural spaces. These environments may include uneven ground, natural terrain, agricultural and under construction structures, animals, outdoor conditions, and limited lighting.

By enrolling as a Student Member and attending a workshop, you acknowledge that participation in events held in such environments carries inherent risks. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and exercise caution while moving around the property. You voluntarily assume responsibility for these ordinary risks and agree to take reasonable care for your own safety and belongings.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to release and hold harmless Sentient Meat, its organizers, facilitators, volunteers, and partner organizations (including Home Afarm Co-op) from liability for injury, loss, or damage that may occur in connection with participation in the workshop, except in cases of gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

Participants are responsible for their own personal safety, transportation, and supervision of any personal property brought to the event.

Any camping or lodging opportunities offered are provided independently and are not part of Sentient Meat’s educational program.
